Desnoes and Geddes Limited was formed in 1918 by Eugene Peter Desnoes and Thomas
Hargreaves Geddes, who combined their two shops into one business.
Their first meeting was simple enough. According to the Gleaner, the two had met
earlier
while Desnoes was employed as a 12-year-old "door opener" at the West Indies
Mineral and Table Water Company:
My name is Thomas Hargreaves Geddes,"
said the newcomer.
The other smiled.
"Glad to make your acquaintance! I've been here a bit. I'm Eugene Desnoes."
And so, for the first time, Desnoes and Geddes (see pic) shook hands. Neither of
them could have imagined that this would mark the beginning of an extraordinary
partnership. A partnership that has lasted 82 years, and has given the world “da
Dragawn”.
